Delia’s LunchBox

Crystal Palace 1 - 1 Norwich

I got my wish.

Fantastic to see Lee Croft get a start and snatch it with both hands with an excellent performance. By all accounts, it was a match we more than held our own in and perhaps deserved more from, which you’d never have thought was possible just a few short weeks ago. Some thoughts:

Darren Huckerby: The maestro is turning into more and more of a square peg. He came on for a few minutes at the end and didn’t really do much, but it’s quite a statement to put him on the bench in the first place, and he’s there simply because of more influential performances by players like Russell and Pattison. He needs to start pulling his finger out a little bit more; the talent is there, but he’s getting a bit lazy. Maybe he’s dreaming of LA.

Loan Signings: Sign them up, please. At least keep Evans and Camara for the rest of the season, but please pick up Matty Pattison and Tiny Taylor permanently. Jimmy Smith I don’t really care about. He’s done nothing to impress me.

The Transfer Window: Anti-competitive as it is, it’s here so we need to deal with it, and for Norwich there are 2 areas we need to improve. Centre Back and Centre Forward. Trim the fat from the PG era (Strihavka, Murray, Brown) and bring in some fresh faces. Martin Taylor or Fitz Hall at the back would be lovely, Shola Ameobi, Jason Roberts, hell even bring Earnie back on loan or something, it’s not like he’s getting games at Derby. We need someone who can put the ball in the net. For a leading scorer, Cureton never looks able. Personally, I’d love to see McKenzie back…

Shackell & Doherty: If the Doc was home grown and Shackell was bought, people would sing a very different tune. Gary Doc has been inspirational for us this season and Shackell consistently…ok. Good performances now and then, with costly mistakes scattered. I don’t want to see him leave but with some Norwich fans somehow thinking he’s a Prem CB in the making, they need to wise up a little. He needs a lot of work.

A good performance, and a good lead up to a morale-boosting win over Bury to come this weekend. Or have I just jinxed that one…
